Traditional asphalt shingles can take up to 300 years to fully decom

pose in a landfill. Each year, millions of tons of old roofing shingles are removed and discarded, contributing significantly to construction and demolition waste. These shingles are made from petroleum-based materials that do not break down easily, creating long-term environmental concerns and occupying valuable landfill space for centuries.
In contrast, metal roofing is one of the most sustainable options available. Steel, aluminum, and other metals used in roofing are 100% recyclable and can be reused repeatedly without losing their strength or performance. When a metal roof reaches the end of its life, it does not have to go to a landfill—instead, it can be fully recycled into new products, including new roofing materials. In fact, many metal roofs already contain a significant percentage of recycled content from the start.
By choosing metal over asphalt shingles, homeowners and contractors reduce environmental impact, help conserve natural resources, and support a circular economy. This makes metal roofing not only a longer-lasting and more durable option, but also a much greener and more eco-friendly solution for today’s sustainability-minded world.
